Who he is

Jordi Salord is an app developer. He makes a living writing software, and Petit Drac is what happens when the trade meets his own language: neither a commission nor a product.

From Menorca to Catalunya

He's from Menorca, and Catalan is his mother tongue. He came to Catalunya to study and stayed.

A language you've always had isn't something you think about: you just speak it. That's precisely why he found it interesting to turn it around and look at it from the outside, from someone who comes to it without having heard it at home, to make it more accessible.

“Parla com menges” — “speak the way you eat”. It's said to someone who complicates what could be said simply, and it's more or less the idea behind this app.

Why Petit Drac exists

Anyone who lives around Catalan ends up understanding a fair amount of it without having studied it, and yet doesn't dare to speak it. Petit Drac is made for that gap: grammar explained by comparing it with what you already know, the pronunciation written under every phrase and everything geared to saying it out loud.

That's also where its rules come from, which aren't a slogan but how it's built:

• It's free, and it will stay that way.
• It carries no advertising and tracks no one: no analytics and no requests to other domains, except in two places, counted and declared — if you choose to sign in with Google, and the contact form's anti-spam, which is also Google's.
• The Catalan content is awaiting review by a native speaker, and that's said openly: it isn't hidden in the small print.
